Question:

Answer:

How long is your concealed carry class?

The class is 8 hours, usually taught in one day. We are available for evening
classes during the week, usually covered in 2 evenings.

Question:

Answer:

What is the minimum age for you to apply for a concealed carry permit?

 21 years of age.

Question:

Answer:

What am I going to be doing in this class?

Most of the day is spent in the classroom. But there will be live fire on the range. We ask you to bring 150 rounds to the class.

Question:

Answer:

What handgun will I need in order to take the class?

I suggest a semi automatic or double action handgun. Probably the most commonly caliber used handgun is .22 long rifle. I have seen many different handguns and calibers.

You must be able to handle the recoil of your firearm under rapid fire conditions. (“I would not recommend a .44 magnum”).

Question:

Answer:

Can I use my hunting handgun with a scope, in the concealed carry class?

No, this is a concealed carry class, not a hunting or marksmanship class.

Question:

Answer:

I have a conviction for Operating under the influence of Liquor, (commonly called “Drunk Driving). Will I be able to apply for a Concealed carry permit?

Yes, if the applicant has not been convicted of ANY MISDEMEANOR in this state or elsewhere, in the 3 years preceding the date of application.

(So, if your date of the conviction is 3 years old or more, you may apply).

Question:

Answer:

After I complete the concealed carry class. How long will it take me to get my permit?

It is very difficult to give you a time frame, County Gun Boards meet only once a month. To give you an example; I have a customer that received his permit in 2 weeks (very rare) and others have had to wait 8 weeks.

Question:

Answer:

Do I have to shoot the same gun in the class, I plan to carry concealed?

No, there is not a requirement to identify the handgun you’re going to carry

associated with the class.

Question:

Answer:

What clothing should I wear to the concealed carry class?

Dress according to the weather, (rain, snow, sunshine ) we will be shooting

outdoors, approximately 3 hours.

Question:

Answer:

Where do I apply for my concealed carry permit?

You must apply in the County where you reside.

(Each County is different, some ask you to apply at the Sheriffs’ Department, others at the County Clerks office).

Question:

Answer:

What do I need to bring with me, the day of your class?

Firearm (handgun), must be semi-automatic or double action, (we do have some rental guns available for the class).  Eye and ear protection if you have it (we do have a limited supply). 150 rounds of ammunition for your handgun.

Question:

Answer:

Will I need pencil and paper for the class?

All materials for the classroom are provided.

Question:

Answer:

How will I know what handgun to carry for concealment?

We will work with you in class.  We will explain things like, Handgun selection, size, fit, etc.  We will also have some of our handguns available after class.

Question:

Answer:

I travel south every winter and was wondering, can I take my handgun with me?

Yes, most of the time you can take the handgun.  Michigan has reciprocity (right to carry agreement) with over 30 other states.  I will provide you with a pamphlet, which explains right-to-carry guidelines of other states.
